Post 6: Social issue

 

I believe that this pandemic has brought to light a problem in Chile that was not so evident before, such as poverty. My history teacher once told me that you are poor or rich, but that the middle class did not exist, and he asked us a question: "if you had an accident or needed an urgent operation, right at this moment, could you pay for it? If you can't, then you are poor". At that time I thought that he was wrong, that there was a difference between a poor person and someone who never lacked anything but still couldn't afford an operation. Now I understand what he meant, because in this quarantine many people were left without jobs, those who were considered middle class by the state from one day to the next lost their source of income and the only thing left is to depend on the monetary aid given by the government , which most of the time are not enough to support a family. Although this is not a problem only in our country, the health crisis brought with it a great impact on the economy, and many countries have been forced to choose between the health of their population or their financial stability, because apparently they can't be do both at the same time.
